As of April 30, 2023, the Eltham Gateway Project is complete.
Since 2021, the Southern Gateway Renewal Group, Major Roads Projects Victoria (MRPV) and I have been working on a project to create a new natural gateway into Eltham by rejuvenating the land either side of Main Rd as you approach the bridge over the Diamond Creek.
In December 2021, I sent out a survey asking for opinions on what people would like to see as part of this project.
Major Roads Projects Victoria (MRPV) and Nillumbik Shire Council worked together on ideas and a path forward for the project, all with community feedback in mind.
Students from Eltham High School, Eltham Primary and Eltham East Primary School came down to the Gateway to get involved, helping by planting trees for the project.
On the 30th of April, 2023, I joined community members, Nillumbik Shire Mayor Cr Ben Ramcharan, Deputy Mayor Geoff Paine, Councillors, Major Roads Projects Victoria, the Southern Gateway Renewal Group in celebrating the completion of the project and planting the remaining trees.
The Eltham Gateway Project is now complete. It has been amazing to see the large amount of input from the community into this project on multiple levels as well as to see transformation of the southern entrance to reflect the character of the environment and values of our community.
