In good news for our canine companions, Nillumbik Shire Council has received $275,000 from the Victorian Government to create a new off-leash dog park in Eltham North. The funding has been provided as part of the Victorian Government’s Suburban Parks Program.

Nillumbik has decided that the new dog park will be located in Dansey’s Paddock in Wattletree Rd and will include a fenced off-leash dog park area with separate zones for small or quiet dogs and big dogs.

Specialist Park designers will be working under Melbourne Water guidance, including the planting of indigenous plants throughout the park.

The dog park will also be linked to the Eltham North Adventure Playground via a trail running next to Diamond Creek and a new carpark. Additional carparks will be created to support the park, including accessible parking. A broader parking plan for the precinct, including the school, playground, and Eltham North ovals is being developed by Nillumbik Council in support.

“We have more than 10,600 registered dogs in the Shire and this new park will provide another safe and social way for residents to exercise their pets,” Cr Egan said.

“There will be a new connection to the Diamond Creek Trail, so dog owners can walk their pets to the park, as well as new car parking for those who live further away.”

“The community is thrilled that Nillumbik Shire Council and the State Government have given the dog park the green light. It adds to the fantastic facilities in the North Eltham recreation and Edendale Farm precinct, which is fast becoming one of Nillumbik’s most-visited outdoor areas,” he said.

“I would like to thank the State Government and Eltham MP Vicki Ward for their support of this project.”
