Nillumbik Shire Council is planning to extend the Eltham Skate Park with a $300,000 Parks Revitalisation Grant from Victorian Government as the current facility does not meet community needs.
The design for the proposed Skate Park received hundreds of submissions and feedback through Nillumbik Council’s online survey and onsite consultation, with 97% of voters in support of the concept plans.
The proposal is to provide a modern facility, focused on the user experience and would see the skate park in Susan Street almost double in size, providing young people and skaters with the latest features to meet current skate trends, improve safety for users and encourage active recreation.
It will also include a shelter, seating, drinking fountain, accessible pathway, fencing and landscaping.
The Eltham Skate Park extension will provide a combination of user obstacles that appeal to all rider styles. It will allow for progression in skill levels while being inviting, family friendly and will provide a contemporary skate space for our community to come together and get active.
Nillumbik Mayor Peter Perkins
“Consultation with young people in the Shire in 2020 demonstrated the interest and need for Council to invest in outdoor recreational activities including skateboarding,” Cr Perkins said.
“I thank the Victorian Government and particularly local MP Vicki Ward for their support of the project with a $300,000 Parks Revitalisation Grant. Council will also be contributing to the project.”
